ELC Head Teacher

Job Title: ELC Head Teacher

Reporting to: Head of Junior School (HOS)

Direct Reports: ELC Teachers, ELC Assistant Teachers   

The ELC Head Teacher is responsible for overseeing the Early Learning Centre.

The primary responsibility is the development of practices to ensure continuity of teaching and learning,             assessment, reporting and pastoral care in the ELC. S/he is also responsible for making              recommendations to the HOS regarding resources and budget to support teaching and learning in the ELC. The ELC Head Teacher is a member of the Junior School Leadership Team. 

JOB OUTCOMES 

Administration

● creating, maintaining and updating all documentation including the Parent Handbook, Policies and Procedures Manual, student assessment and parent correspondence

● ensuring all the physical components of the Centre are safe

● liaising with Admissions and Marketing

● assist the Head of School with staff recruitment and retention

● ensuring educators are aware of the code of conduct and dress as represented in the School handbook

● working with the Admissions team and Learning Support Teacher (where necessary) to oversee the pupil admission and enrollment process

● assisting new educators in understanding the ethos of the School and the Centre’s role in               communicating it to new members of the School community 

● taking responsibility for all personnel who work within or are involved in the Centre i.e. teachers, student teachers, parents, helpers, visitors, cleaners, staff etc. 

Communication

● maintaining effective communication with parents/guardians, administration and educators

● ensuring workplace relations are productive and collaborative 

Programming and Supervision

● developing programs of excellence that are collaboratively planned, implemented and evaluated using the Early Years Learning Framework and Reggio philosophy

● utilizing the Early Years Learning Framework in the planning of all program documents 

● supervising the program of all educators teaching within the Centre

● encouraging educators’ reflection and feedback sessions

● assessing the needs of children within the Centre and monitoring each child’s progress 

● ensuring assessment and reporting procedures are authentic and clearly articulated to educators and parents/guardians

● directing and organising educators to pursue Professional Development opportunities that advance skills in areas identified by self and the Head Teacher.

● mentoring student teachers and assistants from universities and agencies, where appropriate

● assisting teachers in the development and monitoring of Individual Development Plans

● appraising local staff

 

Educators and Student Welfare

● dealing with any concerns relating to educators circumstances in regard to personal health and safety issues 

● dealing with any concerns relating to student circumstances in regard to educational, personal health and safety issues 

● ensuring workplace, health and safety measures are enforced, monitored and reported to key personnel where necessary 

● maintaining current First Aid and Resuscitation qualifications 

● Other duties as directed by the Principal or Head of Junior School.

● Excellent understanding of Early Years Learning Framework of Australia and approaches to design and monitoring of such curriculum

● Highly effective teaching skills

● Ability to overcome obstacles with strategic problem solving skills

● Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills 

● High level ICT skills 

QUALIFICATION

● Bachelor degree or equivalent in Education or significant teaching experience

● Eligibility for teacher registration in home country 

EXPERIENCE

● Experience or potential to lead teams of teachers and support staff in a Junior/Primary School
