A brief description of the ideal candidate

Design Technology has not been taught at the school previously.  The role of the Design Teacher is to help establish the Design program utilizing both the Australian curriculum and the MYP Design Programme.  With limited resources, the teacher is to help establish a design centre at the current premises, and provide guidance on the best way to incorporate this subject in the construction of the new campus.  Design is to be developed as an integral part of the educational experience provided for students at the Australian International School.

As with many schools it has seen rapid change and growth and Design Technology is hoped to become embedded as an -established and popular element of the curriculum for all ages from MYP 1 to 5.

In order to fill this role effectively, the successful candidate will need to have a diverse range of qualities, competencies and experience.

He/She should be an outstanding teacher, learner, motivator and communicator, with excellent interpersonal skills. He/She should be able to provide professional expertise, high quality teaching and learning within a rapidly evolving area of IT. He/She should make effective use of resources and ensure improved standards of learning, high performance and achievement for all students. He/She should be creative and innovative and should be able to collaborate with colleagues in school and with colleagues across the school.

The role of the Design Technology teacher within the Middle Years Programme assumes a knowledge of the philosophy and practices of the International Baccalaureate.  The successful candidate should be an adaptable and inspiring educator, with the ability to deliver a coherent, balanced, integrated, inquiry-based programme and should be capable of preparing students for international programmes in a stimulating, challenging and well-organised learning environment.

In addition, the role of ICT coordinator assumes professional responsibility for providing, leading and facilitating diverse and effective learning experiences using Information and Communication Technology in a supportive and positive climate across the Secondary School and in collaboration with the Primary School’s ICT coordinator.

Information about the school

The International School, Dhaka is a relatively small yet growing 3-18 school that opened in 2002 as a pre-primary  and  primary  school.  The school follows the Australian curriculum to Grade 10.

The school established Grades 11 and 12 in 2011 and offer our Grade 11 and 12 students the West Australian Certificate of Education (WACE).  Successful completion of this program allows students to matriculate and enter universities around the world.  Currently the school is intending to implement the International Baccalaureate across all grade levels.

The school is currently located in converted buildings in the Gulshan area. It will move into a new, purpose-built campus in 2017.

We have 75 students in our middle years section, and the school is an interested school with the IB’s MYP , Programme.  We hope to be approved as a candidate school for the start of the August 2015 academic year.
